Some things I have made....

This is a VERY small selection of things I have made!

Hi!  I'm Mel, from My MCN's.  I am Mumma to a 7 month old baby girl, Ava, and love working from home so that I can spend more time with her.  Whenever I get the chance, I am in my sewing room or online looking up new ideas, patterns and fabrics.  I have been sewing for as long as I can remember, starting out making dolls clothes with fabric from my Nan's scrap box, through to now, willing to tackle almost anything!

When Pattern Revolution asked me to review the “Sew Precious” pillowcase style bubble romper by Footloose & Fancy Free, I was really excited because we are having a cold snap here in Tasmania, Australia, so it was nice to make something ready for the warmer weather!  I don't own any patterns by Footloose & Fancy Free so I was keen to check it out.

The pattern is sized for 6 months through to 24 months, and the pattern is nested.  It could easily be printed in black and white as the lines are printed as differet types of dashes, so they are still easy to follow.  The instructions are awesome, every step is spelt out and there are lots of photos to help you along the way.  I would rate the difficulty as intermediate, while the instructions are very easy to follow, some parts are fiddly, like attaching bias binding as a facing to the arm and leg holes.  Just be prepared to take a breather and get a cup of tea if you are suffering from mum-nesia or sleep deprivation!  I found the paper part of the pattern was a little confusing to put together, and there is a bit of wasted paper by the time the pieces overlap.

From cutting to the final stitch, it took me about 4 hours to complete the romper.  I am sure that once you have made one, they would be a lot faster.  I loved how easy the cutting out was, that is the part I like the least so I was glad to be able to just get on with it and sew!  And a bonus is that it doesn't use a lot of fabric, even with the ruffles!

 

I have had this fabric sitting in my stash for ages waiting for the perfect project, I have been a bit dubious about mixing the gingham with the bird print, but I think it looks perfect!  Orange is a colour that doesn't feature much in Ava's wardrobe, and just looking at it makes me feel all summery!  I can see this being a staple for this summer, it is light and cool, easy to get on and off, fits over her cloth nappies easily and she will be able to move freely.  Do I really want her to move freely?  She has just learnt to crawl, which is both exciting and a little bit nerve wracking!






My romper has the pocket option, and there are also instructions provided for a super cute little bird applique.  I can't wait to make a few more and try switching it up a bit, this pattern will make a great base for something lovely to be embroidered on (there are no centre seams on the front or back), some shirring around the waist to make it more fitted or some ruffles on the leg holes instead of the back.

The fit is great on Ava, she is wearing the 6 month size.  There is plenty of room for her to grow too.  It looks so cute on her, I love it when baby girls are dressed like baby girls!  Ava loves ruffles and detail on her clothing, so this romper will keep her occupied for a while :)
